Christianity & Currency:

Viewing Daily Exchanges thru the Christian Story…

…is the title of our new sermon series beginning with God’s Work Our Hands on Sunday September 7th. This fall we will explore together our daily frameworks for relationships, exchange and reciprocity. This series will help us see ourselves and our world more clearly through the eyes of scripture and then encourage us to make changes and evolve our daily practices to more closely align with Jesus and this Christian story we claim and proclaim.

Through September, October and November we will use the stories we find throughout scripture to guide us more deeply into a biblical framework for our relationship with creation, each other, our gifts and the things of this world. We will ask questions such as:

  • What does the Bible have to say about human’s relationship to various currencies?

  • Do our relationships reflect our Christian values?

  • Do the world’s teachings regarding exchange align or oppose the teaching of Christ?

  • How might we shift our daily frameworks to better imitate Christ?

Taking time to dive deeply into our daily practices of being in relationship to things, each other and the whole of creation offers us an opportunity to reflect, realign and intentionally evolve.

On my refrigerator I have Annie Dillard’s quote, “How we spend our days is how we spend our lives” and sometimes we need to take time to meaningful review how we actually spend our days to ensure that our lives DO consist of the values, actions and beliefs we hold most dear.  I pray these months offer us the time, space and prayerful consideration to hear the voice of Christ calling us to deeper alignment with our faith.
